Sabina will demonstrate the Pretend Gargle exercise. This exercise strengthens the back of the tongue,
which pushes food and liquid into the esophagus
during the swallow. Please do NOT perform this exercise with liquid. Pull your tongue back, as if you are gargling,
and hold for 5 seconds. If you are having difficulty placing your tongue
in the correct position, follow these instructions: Make a /g/ sound. Good. Make it again. This time, make it a long sound
instead of a quick sound. That will simulate a gargle. Repeat 5-10 times
as prescribed by your speech therapist.
