SANDRA: GOOD AFTERNOON. I’M SANDRA MITCHELL. JUAN: I’M WANT FERNANDEZ. DEVELOPING NEWS, THOUSANDS OF THE PORTER RANCH FAMILIES HAVE BEEN WAY TO GO HOME AND NOW THEY CAN BEGIN MOVING BACK. OFFICIALS SAY THE GHASTLY HAS BEEN CAPPED AND IT IS TIME FOR GOOD. KCAL 9 KARA FINNSTROM’S LIVE WITH INFORMATION. REPORTER: STATE LEADERS TODAY EXPRESSED RELIEF THAT ALSO SAID IT A LOT OF WORK STILL NEEDS TO BE DONE TO HELP OF THESE FAMILIES MOVE FORWARD AND MAKE SURE THIS TYPE OF MASSIVE THAT LEAK DOES NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. WE HAVE GOOD NEWS, THE DIVISION OF OIL AND GAS HAS CONFIRMED THE LEAK HAS BEEN PERMANENTLY SEALED. REPORTER: THERE ARE THE WORDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WAITED NEARLY FOUR MONTHS TO HEAR. ONE WEEK AGO THE GAS COMPANY ANNOUNCED IT HAD TEMPORARILY CAPPED ONE OF THE BIGGEST NATURAL GAS LEAKS IN US HISTORY AND CREWS IMMEDIATELY BEGAN PUMPING AND CEMENTED TO PERMANENTLY SEAL IT. FIVE TESTS WERE USED TO CONFIRM THE INTEGRITY OF THE CEMENT SEAL IN THE CALIFORNIA AIR RESOURCES BOARD AND SOUTH AIR QUALITY MANAGEMENT DISTRICT HAS CONFIRMED AIR QUALITY HAS RETURNED TO TYPICAL LEVELS. REPORTER: PORTER RANCH FAMILIES WHO DEALT WITH NOSEBLEEDS AND WERE RELOCATED WILL NOW HAVE EIGHT DAYS TO MOVE BACK FROM HOTELS. ONE DOWN, 114 TO GO. PEOPLE ARE STILL GETTING SICK EVEN SINCE THEY ALLEGEDLY CAPPED IT. REPORTER: MATT SAYS PLUGGING THE LEAK HAS NOT STOPPED THE ANGER AND FEAR AND SAYS THERE ARE WORRIES ABOUT THE SAFETY OF OTHER WELLS AND LONG-TERM HEALTH EFFECTS AND LA COUNTY HEALTH OFFICER ADDRESS THAT DIRECTLY. THE SYMPTOMS ARE ATTRIBUTABLE TO THE GAS AND PARTICULARLY THE ODORANTS, SO IF RESIDENTS COME BACK HOME AND THEY DON’T SMELL ANY ODORS AND DON’T HAVE SYMPTOMS THEN IT’S SAFE FOR THEM TO RETURN. REPORTER: COUNTY LEADERS TELL US THEY ARE NOW LOOKING AT A PLAN THAT WOULD TEST A LIMITED NUMBER OF HOMES FOR CONTAMINANTS AND THESE CHEMICALS, BUT THEY ALSO TELL US IT IS TOUGH BECAUSE THERE CONTAMINANTS IN HOMES THAT HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE LEAK. JUAN: A LOT GOING ON. WILL THEY START PUMPING GAS INTO THE RESERVOIR AGAIN OR JUST AS WELL? MAC THEY SAY THEY WILL NOT RESUME USE OF THE OTHER 114 WELLS AND THEY WILL NOT PUMP MORE GAS INTO IT UNTIL THEY UNDERGO NEW TOUGHER TESTING. JUAN: THANK YOU. ON THE SAME SUBJECT, THE ELLIE USD SAID IT WILL NOT CONFIRM THAT IT WILL DEAL WITH STUDENTS WHO HAD TO MOVE BECAUSE OF THE LEAK AND TODAY IT ISSUED A STATEMENT SAYING: THIS WILL ALLOW US TO PLAN FOR THE RETURN OF THE STUDENTS AND STAFF TO THEIR HOME CAMPUSES. OUR STUDENTS CONTINUE TO ATTEND THEIR SATELLITE

  1. I was doing a reaserch project for school about porter ranch and I actually learned that the Alison canyon was not one but two leaks and they only capped one and the company found out in Jan 2016 then notified the public about it in March of 2016
