Alabama pipeline spill contributes to gas shortage in Eastern North Carolina

DRIVERS IN A FRENZY. TODAY.. MANY LOCAL GAS STATIONS WERE CLOSED.. WHICH LEFT LONG LINES AT THE ONES STILL OPEN. W-N-C-T’S TAMARA SCOTT SPOKE WITH DRIVERS ON THEIR CONCERNS. “THERE’S AT LEAST 20 CARS AT EVERY STATION AND PEOPLE HAVE JUST BEEN WAITING FOR GAS. IT’S CRAZY, BUT WE ALL NEED IT SO WE JUST HAVE TO WAIT.” HUNDREDS LIKE MARQUIS MITCHELL HAVE WAITED ALMOST AN HOUR IN LONG LINES FOR GAS. DUE TO A PIPELINE LEAK IN ALABAMA.. GAS STATIONS ARE RUNNING OUT OF GAS IN EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA. “THIS IS LIKE THE FOURTH PLACE THAT I’VE GONE TO SO THIS IS UNREAL. EVERYONE HAS THE LITTLE BAGS ON THEIR NO GAS LEFT, IT’S UNREAL.” ON FRIDAY, GOVERNOR PAT MCCRORY SIGNED AN EXECUTIVE ORDER.. IN RESPONSE TO THE SHORTAGE. HE SAID, “THIS EXECUTIVE ORDER WILL HELP PROTECT OUR MOTORISTS FROM EXCESSIVE GAS PRICES AND ENSURE AN UNINTERRUPTED SUPPLY OF FUEL THAT IS ESSENTIAL FOR THE HEALTH, SAFETY AND ECONOMIC WELL-BEING OF BUSINESSES, CONSUMERS AND VISITORS IN NORTH CAROLINA.” BUT PEOPLE AROUND HERE ARE NOT TAKING ANY CHANCES. “WE UNDERSTAND THERE IS A LITTLE BIT OF A GAS SHORTAGE AND THIS IS MY WIFES VEHICLE. I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE SHE’S GOT ENOUGH GAS TO GET AROUND TOWN FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK.” WHEN BRUCE MOSER FROM SPEEDWAY CAME TO FILL UP A STATION.. IT DIDN’T TAKE LONG FOR PEOPLE TO TAKE NOTICE AND…SWARM “I GOT HERE ABOUT 30 MINUTES AGO AND AS SOON AS I PULLED IN THE DRIVE WAY PEOPLE STARTED COMING IN BEHIND ME, AND NOW THAT THE GAS STATION IS FULL, I DON’T KNOW HOW I’M GONNA GET OUT OF HERE NOW.” MOSER SAYS MANY GAS SUPPLIERS ARE BACKED UP.. BUT ARE WORKING HARD TO GET GAS TO CUSTOMERS AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. “DISPATCH IS SENDING ME ONE LOAD AT A TIME RIGHT NOW, SO WHEN I GET DONE WITH THIS ONE, I’LL TELL THEM I’M DONE. THEN THEY’LL SEND ME TO MY NEXT LOAD.” IN GREENVILLE TAMARA SCOTT…NINE ON YOUR SIDE MOSER SAYS MOST FILL-UP’S USUALLY LAST A DAY.. BUT THE WAY TRAFFIC LOOKS TODAY.. IT COULD BE SHORTER. MANY GAS STATION EMPLOYEES SAY THEY ARE UNSURE WHEN THE NEXT SHIPMENT OF GAS WILL BE COMING IN.
